Writers tackle politics

James Houston, Karen Joy Fowler and I are in discussion, led by the inimitable Rick Kleffel, on KUSP this Sunday from 6 to 7 Pacific time. We’re talking politics, folks, and around here, that can mean anything.

If you have questions you’d like the four of us to address, send them to Rick at: agony at trashotron.com

Listen in, it should be a good one.

  1. Thanks much for answering my question! I’ve always wondered how you balance politics and fiction, but you summed it up nicely. Indeed you do have to give the characters free reign.

True about writing about then and now! I’ve always liked the way you provide a great historical context and backdrop for your mysteries. Everything is always weaved together nicely. Thus far a great show, still listening 🙂 !

    Laurie,

I very much enjoyed listening to the show last night. There is a nice feeling of intimacy on a radio broadcast like that even though i was listening to it from 3,000 miles away. Thanks for letting us know about it in advance.

But I do have give kudos to Karen for using a new phrase in the English language: “I don’t mean to be pulling a Sarah Palin”! (I am paraphrasing.) Fascinating how we all knew exactly what she was referring to in that moment.
