October? already?

The sign of a successful holiday is that the house looks very strange when you return.  Did I have that mottled grey Corian on the counter before I left?  Well, yes, but only for the past 7 years, so that’s all right.

And now that I’m back and looking at my kitchen calendar, I see that October is not very far away.  And October will be a busy month, not only because of the copyedits for GOTH (The God of the Hive)–if you’re in CA, IN, or ONLINE, join me here:

Oct 4: The West Hollywood Book Fair (the program is under “stages” for some reason)

Oct 11: Litquake in San Francisco

Oct 15-19: BoucherCon in Indianapolis (you can check out the meet-up discussion here)

Oct 24: Poisoned Pen Press WebCon, during which online conference which I will be grilling fellow author Lee Child and our Bantam editor Kate Miciak.

  1. I figured you must be going to Litquake! But with 500 authors (! I think that’s what they said anyway) floating around for the event, I didn’t see you listed when I looked.

Welcome home, Laurie. Even more significant to me than the change from September to October is that yesterday was the first day of Autumn. Good gracious. How long before the heat needs to get turned on? Before I am driving to and from work in the dark (which I now hate doing)? Before the LL Bean polar fleece vest comes out of the closet to be worn continuously until it’s warm again? I love the leaves and the apples, but the closeness of ice and snow is always tough.

    It’s GOTH! Got it.

  3. LL BEAN! WOOT! My brother works there! I will have to tell him that the *coolest* people on the planet wear Bean gear. Cause we do.

  4. Apple Cider time!

But really! GOTH? Ok, I know it makes sense – is after all the initials – but… Blackness, start contrast, androgynous, or barbarianism… I really have a hard time associating Russell and Holmes with that picture. Laurie maybe, in wilder days, but not Miss Russell. She may be unconventional but GOTH? NEVER!

  5. I suppose GOTH it is, then. (I nearly typed HOTH. That would have been an interesting world mix.)
