Agatha and me

The list of nominees for this year’s Agatha awards is now up on the Malice Domestic web site.banner

Malice, which takes place in Bethesda the first weekend in May, celebrates “the traditional mystery,” and Dreaming Spies is one of the attendees’ top choices for “Best Historical Mystery.”  This is a great honor–I mean, just look at the others in just this one category:

Best Historical Novel:
Malice at the Palace, Rhys Bowen (Berkley)
The Masque of a Murderer, Susanna Calkins (Minotaur Books)
Dreaming Spies
, Laurie R. King (Bantam)
Mrs. Roosevelt’s Confidante, Susan Elia Macneal (Banntam)
Murder on Amsterdam Avenue, Victoria Thompson (Berkley)

Voting takes place during the conference.  The entire list of nominations, offering a lot of weeks of great traditional crime stories, is here.

  2. Merrily Taylor says:

So richly deserved, Laurie – I’ll be rooting for you!

  3. Barbie Winstead says:

Savor ing every word of Dreaming Spies right now. Happy place.

  4. Nina Houghton says:

Laurie! I’m thrilled! If the indications of a great book include being captivated within the first sentence, being unable to stop reading, falling in love with the characters as if they are family, feeling bereft when the book is finished, and waiting impatiently for the next instalment, then the Mary Russell books are great indeed. What’s more, can a historical mystery ask for more than having Sherlock Holmes as a primary character? I am so happy for your nomination. It is truly deserved.

  5. You have already won, in that several people so value your work. I am happy for you. I am starting to appreciate how difficult your journey to this point had to be, as I attempt it myself.
    I respect you very much.

  6. Congratulations on a well-deserved nomination. And thank you for including the other titles- my TBR pile may get a little taller.

  7. Laura Stratton says:

Congratulations. Dreaming Spies is an outstanding read. It and it’s author deserve to win!

  11. Having read 3 of the listed novels, I can only say that Dreaming Spies is the best of the lot. 🙂
Congrats on this honor. You so deserve to win this award. Eagerly awaiting May . . .

  12. My husband and I love your Holmes and Russell series and have re-read them numerous times. I already have your new book on hold at the library, although I don’t know when it will come out. Whether or not you win with this excellent book, the entire series is a winner, one I hope continues for many years to come.
